Black Locust Flower Essence

Pacific Northwest Essences

Black Locust Flower Essence

Sold out

Black locust is a striking tree with a solid yet dramatic presence, especially in winter, when the branches are bare. But then spring comes and the tree becomes flooded and heavy with lightly-scented white flowers, a scent very different from that of narcotic white flowers such as jasmine—this one is pure relaxation. This essence was handmade by our herbalist, Ava Zhan.

Indications

Mood swings; feeling stressed out, overly driven, or overly focused on the future; manic depression, irritability, impatience, or feeling one is too emotional.

Emotional and spiritual effects

This essence brings on a feeling of sweet, quiet happiness and a sense of emotional fullness. It leads to a feeling of contentment in the moment. Black locust has a relaxing influence on the mind and emotions. It may be used as a single essence once in a while as needed, or, preferably, taken daily for a month or a few months.

In cases of mania or manic depression, Ava recommends using this essence in conjunction with Western herbs (dandelion is one highly recommended option) or Chinese herbal formulas prescribed by an experienced herbalist. Heat-clearing herbs are particularly useful. For chronic or recurrent moodiness and irritability, we recommend taking black locust essence or a custom essence blend alongside herbs for decongesting the liver and moving the liver qi.

Physical plane

Some herbalists employ this flower essence successfully in cases of mania, manic depression, and chronic moodiness.

Sources

Our recommendations for this essence were originally inspired by the teachings of David Dalton.
